Fascinating question. I'll have to think about this one.

This was honestly a tough decision. Here's what I'll go with:

1. Paschendale
2. Brave New World
3. Fear of the Dark
4. Tail Gunner
5. Ghost of Navigator
6. Dream of Mirrors

I was recently tasked with creating an Iron Maiden greatest hits CD for a person uninitiated in the ways of the beast. The one stipulation was that it fit a single CD. That made it an entertaining project, but I found this question harder.

Barring these 6 songs and a few others, I have to say that I vastly prefer Bruce's solo material from the last two decades...

I'm very curious what tracks you chose for the Iron Maiden Voyage compilation disc.

Ha, wish I'd though of "Maiden Voyage" as the title for the disc! Nice work.

To fit on an 80 minute CD, this is what I came up with.

Iron Maiden [US] - Prowler 1981 (3:56)
Iron Maiden [US] - Iron Maiden 1981 (3:34)
Killers - Wrathchild 1981 (2:54)
Killers - Killers 1981 (5:01)
The Number Of The Beast - The Number Of The Beast 1982 (4:51)
The Number Of The Beast - Run To The Hills 1982 (3:53)
The Number Of The Beast - Hallowed Be Thy Name 1982 (7:12)
Piece Of Mind - The Trooper 1983 (4:10)
Powerslave - Aces High 1984 (4:29)
Powerslave - 2 Minutes To Midnight 1984 (5:59)
Somewhere In Time - Wasted Years 1986 (5:07)
Somewhere In Time - Heaven Can Wait 1986 (7:21)
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son - Infinite Dreams 1988 (6:08)
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son - Can I Play With Madness 1988 (3:31)
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son - The Clairvoyant 1988 (4:27)
Fear Of The Dark - Fear Of The Dark 1992 (7:18)

Nice work...went for the 80's-early 90's career span. That's the way to go. I'm far lazier. I just point them to "Live After Death" and figure that if that doesn't convert 'em, nothing will.

That is tough to fit a Maiden best of on one disc. As I prefer a lot of the more epic longer songs, that makes it very limiting. But I think I would always include "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" and let the rest fall into place. But looking at your list, it would be very tough to eliminate any of your essentials...

I agree 100%. If this were a Maiden mix for my own consumption, it would look completely different. As it was, I really wanted to get "Powerslave" on there, but I couldn't work it out. Overall, I prefer all the Maiden songs that aren't the iconic ones. I also can't stand "Can I Play With Madness," but it was so short that it fit in there nicely.
