Great News of the Day - Shrinebuilder enters the studio!

Looks like Shrinebuilder is FINALLY getting off the ground. The supergroup to end all supergroups (Wino + Scott Kelly of Neurosis + Al Cisneros of Om and Sleep + Dale Crover of The Melvins) is going into the studio today with Big Business guitarist Toshi Kasai producing.

Keep yer eye on Kelly's blog for updates as they get the album recorded.

FINALLY!

This looks EXCELLENT

I want to see the full version of this doc quite badly. Here's an extended preview of "Such Hawks Such Hounds: Scenes From The American Hard Rock Underground."

Hook of the Day - Sleep "Dragonaut"

by Wayne Graham

The 90's get a bit of a bad rap when it comes to hard rock and metal. The widely held opinion is that everything was hair bands and nothing but hair bands until Nirvana came along and saved us all, and then the entire genre (save GNR, Pantera, and Metallica) went away until nu-metal reared its ugly head. This is a gross (and pretty much inaccurate) oversimplification on the level of the Everything In American Film Was Good Until Star Wars and Jaws Ruined It All debate.

That's a discussion for another time, but til then......Look harder. Kyuss, Entombed, At the Gates, Melvins, Meshuggah. Perhaps metal wasn't quite selling like it used to, but there are tons of classic releases from that period.

Any decade where a fine slab of molten metal like Sleep's Holy Mountain is released is NOT a bad decade for metal at all.
