Hook of the Day - Def Leppard "Photograph"

by Wayne Graham

Okay, not to be One of Those Guys that always claims an older band's older stuff is better than their newer stuff.....but Def Leppard's older stuff is better than their newer stuff.

Probably.

Lep scored a #5 debut on the charts with their latest album Songs From the Sparkle Lounge. As much as I think that Def Leppard is a genuinely great band overall, I get hives when I think of devoting 45 minutes to an hour of my life listening to something called Songs from the Sparkle Lounge, especially when the first single is a collabo with, um, TIM MCGRAW?? (look it up yourself. I want nothing to do with you being subjected to it) Look, I get it, there's not much difference between hair metal and contemporary country. Bon Jovi is proving it. Carrie Underwood proved it when she covered Skid Row to the approval of Sebastian Bach.

But that doesn't make it okay. And, frankly, the song is bunk, with or without McGraw. I'm going ahead and chalking Sparkle Lounge up as a creative failure based on this alone.

THIS is the Def Leppard I like!
